Mom’s Scones
Last night for a ladies tea at my house, my mom made her wonderful Cranberry Orange Scones. These are my absolute favorite, so I thought I would share the recipe. I was so excited to have one for breakfast this morning with a steaming cup of tea, but alas… it turns out that hubbies like them, too (There not only wonderful for fancy tea parties, but also for grabbing as you run out the door ☺).
Mom’s Cranberry Orange Scones
1¾ c. flour ⅓ c. butter
3 T. sugar ½ c. dried cranberries
2½ t. baking powder 1 egg, beaten
2 t. grated orange zest 4-6 T. half and half
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, orange zest; cut in ⅓ c butter. Stir in cranberries, egg, half and half until dough leaves sides of bowl. Knead 10x; roll into 9″ circle, cut into 12 wedges. Brush top with 1 egg, beaten; sprinkle with 2 T sugar. Bake @ 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Orange Butter
½ c. butter
2 T. orange marmalade

I baked the scones today. They are delicious.
Love your site and the pictures of you and your family.
I’m planning to have my boss, Ron, and his wife Bonnie over for lunch before Thanksgiving, as I will be taking the whole week off from work. I think I’m going to try these scones along with some finger sandwiches and soup. Do you have any good finger sandwich recommendations? Love you!
I made these scones – twice in one day. I made them the Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving to make sure they turned out okay, thinking if they did then they’d be ready for lunch that same day for Ron and Bonnie. I tested them out on Mark and his friend Dave that stays with us once a week. They loved them but both of them agreed that they needed to be served warm for the best affect because of the orange butter. So I sent the rest with Dave for his employees at work, and proceeded to make another batch right before my guests arrived. Ron could not stop eating them. Of the twelve, there were only two left at the end of the lunch and I sent those with him. I’m quite sure he gobbled them down promptly! Thanks for the recipe, Bonnie & Missy!
Ingrid and Mel…
So glad that the recipe was a hit! We sure do love it around here and they disappear quickly whenever we make them. Thanks for letting us know you like them!
